RHCE
If you are looking for performance based certification them RHCE is the best choice for you. It requires hands on practice. While MCSE, CCNA like exam are simulator based held online, RHCE exam conduct on practical lab. Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) is a performance-based test that measures actual competency on live systems. Called the "crown jewel of Linux certifications," RHCE proves an individual's ability to configure networking services and security on servers running a Red Hat OS.
Becoming a Red Hat Certified Engineer requires passing a 3.5 hour hands-on exam. There are four different approaches to preparing for the exam depending on your existing level of Linux expertise.
Red Hat and Red Hat Linux
Red Hat was founded in 1994 and provides the most popular distribution of Linux in the U.S., Red Hat Linux. Its Linux distribution, like those of other vendors, includes the Linux operating system, utilities to install and maintain it, and useful applications.
Red Hat Certified Engineer Program
During 1998, Red Hat developed a certification program for Red Hat Certified
Engineers (RHCE) called the RHCE program. In 1999, they began offering RHCE preparation courses and the certification exam. Like other technical certification
programs, the RHCE program was designed to provide technical workers and employers with a useful metric of skills and knowledge An unusual aspect of the RHCE exam is that it is performance-based.
Whereas other certification programs rely primarily on written exams to
measure knowledge and skill, the RHCE exam includes a series of exercises
that require the candidate to perform typical system and network administration
tasks, such as software installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.
The RHCE exam also includes a written component; however, its common for
a candidate who does well on the written component to perform poorly on or even
fail the performance components.
Red Hat believes that a performance-based exam measures the candidates skills more
reliably than the multiple-choice exams that compose most certification programs.
